Number indexes use.

Tue Oct 28, 2008 1:23 pm

As agreed with Pocus I'm going after use of spanish language names for Spanish Units and Sun Units in Peninsular War OOB.

Now Spanish "version" of ordinal numbers is: 2°, 2ª, 3°, 3ª...... for 2nd, 3rd, (masculine/feminine respectively).

I noticed other characters peculiar of few lamguages are used: french ç, German ü,.....
So I expect Spanish numerical indexes, (But other commonly used in Italy too), could be supported by NCP too!
Please confirm.

for Units/models you can use accents (ü and such), but not for regions, unless the names are in the Localstrings file (with the new system). So lowercase o and e are ok -- although people will think it is a zero!

AFAIK, these special characters should not be used in any fields of DB that will become part of the 'extracted' file name. Havoc ensued with BoA updates and mods where this was done....

Looking at 1813 scenario, Column B: Units unique name.
Grande Armée
René Desgenettes
Jean-Baptiste Eblé

While é is common character in Neo-Latin languages, that's not used in English, and others......

Units unique name is then critical from commands as SelUnqUnit......

What to do, then?
Do we have to change that?
AFAI, it seems not troublesome after many mods and tests over 1813 scenario......

It's then true Special characters have been used with models EXL file, so they are expected to influence command as SelUnqSubUnit.....

Ex: Jean-Baptiste Eblé; François Drouot; Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher;.....

Again they seem not to give troubles, but that same character is used in any command.
Ex:
SelUnqSubUnit; Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher WORKS!

SelUnqSubUnit; Gebhard Leberecht von Blucher is troublesome!

Indeed the very trouble is with keyboards: for example I have not ü!
So I have to bother after copy/paste routine to use it! :neener:

Please Pocus could you confirm if its ok or not to use characters like "ñ", "ó", "é" "í"... for the spanish unts and elements names in NCP?
We have already dropped the ª and º after numbers as you advised. Not a big loss.
But using the Spanish eñe ("ñ") would be very nice.
España without ñ is not España!! :D

You can use the ASCII keyboard codes for characters not supported by your keyboard. Look here

http://rmhh.co.uk/ascii.html

For example ü is ALT 129

Yes you can. This is only a problem if it leads to a file with accent, but I think that CSVSplitter converts accents to plain letters now ... to be confirmed.

This is not done for regions though, so beware, no accents here!

Cool! Thanks!
We will be careful with regions names... not sure even if jastaV have some plans about tweaking that...
