I'm always having a shortage of manpower before WS or $$ as the CSA.

Hi all , ive been playing this game for over a month now and think its great, Id just like to add my comments on the CSA investment in industry.
Ive started as the CSA over 30 times now trying different ways to make cash and WS , i think the most important thing about investing in the CSA states is infastructure. There does not seem any point in investing in states like Ark and Texes or LA and Florida as the process of supply for these states is very poor due to lack of railroad and rivers also Depots are scarce which help draw supplys.
Also when adding your industry i always think its a good idea to put them in states near the fighting but not on the front line. The outcome of all this is i always invest in SC and Miss and if im really well off NC aswell , in one game SC was producing 35 WS 8k cash in April 62.
This draws me to my Question is it worth investing in lvl2 industry for the south what are the benifits if light industry keeps producing WS and cash?

I prefer to spread my investments around using light industrialization. Sometimes I will go to medium industrialization in a small state for one turn ... if I have just enough $ & WS left to do that, but not enough to invest in something else. I agree that the ROI doesn't seem as good for medium or heavy instrialization.

Georgia was the first state that I invested in. When you mouse over it; it states that the “Industrial Potential” is “Average” which is higher than all other states (CSA). What seems to be the most needed resource for the CSA is war supplies. It takes some time but over the months and years the amount of war supplies from those states increases. In my first Full Campaign I industrialized, one level, both in Georgia and North Carolina. Along with the Raider Ships, originally given, by the third and fourth year I’m receiving the war supplies needed to put up a good fight.

Money? I go with War Bonds and Taxes and right at the turn were Reinforcements become available, I print money once with inflation running at 4%. The money is to buy as many Militia and Cavalry as possible to put up a reasonable defense over a wide area in the beginning of the game. Later better troops are purchased to take the fight to the enemy.

I think it is not :niark: But sure it depends on your playing style. If I play the CSA, I never invest in Virginia, because every region I lose will reduce my economy even more. When I invested, I always did in Georgia, because it is safe.

If your numbers are correct, light industrialization should pay off already after the first year, because the monthly cost is 17$/22ws (which is a lot for the early csa), and without industrialization SC produces less than 10ws if I remember right (so I would get back every ws that I invested from April '62 onwards).

Actually I am a bit confused. Does somebody have numbers about how industrialization will pay off?

This is just a wild guess but whenever i play CSA my WS is always low and i seem to get more WS than Ammo or Supply or all three at one somtimes , but when my WS increase it seems to slow down maybe there linked im not sure.

Light Industrialization spread out over a few states, combined with some light militia recruitment (which are immediately chucked into training centres) and conserving your troops (and thus the need for replacements) has been a winning strategy for me in the last two games. By 1863, the war is more or less won (I have all 13 States) and I have WS up the ying yang. Raise the Stars and Bars, sip some whiskey and enjoy a sing-song.
