Would someone take a look at the Montgomery, Ky to Montgomery, Tn railroad link. I am unable to get units to move by railroad in either direction.

I took a look at both regions and cannot find a problem. Neither region has damaged railroads and units will move to other regions by railroad without a problem. I am stumped.

The region numbers are Montgomery 563 and Warren 541.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi chaps, can somebody also look at the railroad link between 792 Cameron and 789 Hampstead (Houston). When I try and move by rail from Cameron to Hampstead I get a very long and strange route.

What denotes a rail link?

translinkx = x|1? If this is the case a link exists but if I plot a move to Cameron from the coast and then add a plot to Hampstead all is fine until I hit the rail move button - then it takes me through 3 or 4 regions starting with Galveston (which in fact is 100% controlled by the enemy).

Cheers, Chris

I think my problem above is actually just a problem with the game rather than a missing link. Normally you can force the pathfinding by moving a region at a time but if you want to move by rail and there is a link in the region you are in at the moment you have to take that first rail link or not travel by rail at all.

What I was trying to do was move to a region by land then take the train
and not take the train in the region I start in.

Don't quite understand where the problem is ( (a) I'm dumb - (b) I understand nothing when explained in English - (c) Make up the reason).

If you drop the stack one region at a time, you can choose the path of your liking, rail or not. Also, why would you not want to move by rail, if you can and you pay for it (for synch purpose perhaps) ?

Please ignore what I said but there does seem to be some sort of problem
between 789 Hampstead (Houston) and 792 Cameron to the west.

The map shows a rail link and there is the TransLink2 = 792|1
but I cannot move by rail between these regions.

Anyone know why this is? (I have control of both regions).
Cheers, Chris

Gray_Lensman would be the answer here (aside from Pocus) - this is Gray's area from now on.

From what I see, there are Translinks in both files to each other. What I don't see, and not sure if this is relevant or not, are adjacency parameters in each file for the opposing region. I don't know on what basis these adjacency parameters are doled out, so I can't comment any further. But my guess is that is a reason. Because the translinks should work (note: I have no clue what the second number behind the region number means on translinks).

I think I found a cause. You'll have to edit a file (make your backup first).

Go to the Includes directory. Open up the file entitled CitiesCampaignA61.inc (or whatever file corresponds to the scenario you are playing).

Now scan for the line that reads SelectRegion = $Cameron, TX. Go down a few lines and change Transport = $Track to Transport = $Railroad.

Fire that save game up and see if it works. If it does not, then you might have to try a new game as perhaps the INC files are loaded only at game start, and the save game contains the transport 'status' of the region.

this inc file is only used upon scenario creation. You will have to tweak the scn for that. During play, you have to tweak the HST.

This seems a bit too much for my post Sunday lunch mind. But thanks very much for the answers, I'll take a look in the next couple of days.

Is there a thread anywhere that explains the meanings for the variables in the region files? One thing that is confusing me is that you can have several adjacency links to the same region and what is a jumplink?

I think I may have found a few more region link problems but don't feel up to posting them today. Will Gray's fixes to the regions make the next patch?
If they will is there any urgency to get these posted (OK just my way of trying to find out when the next patch might be :sourcil: )

Cheers, Chris

Yes, just noted this a bit ago when I finally found I had to adjust the .scn files and not all the .inc files and all of those other files.

Can anyone tell me what I have to adjust in the .scn file or .hst file? I can't find anything that says Transport = $Track in these files.

Lee's life could depend on this!
Thanks, Chris

Many thanks simovitch that fixed it! (unfortunately nothing I can do for the current turn though)

Looks pretty authoratative to me.

By the way, if you pick up a hardcover copy of Shelby Foote's books, the national maps in the inside of the cover include (most of) the rail network. Foote's maps show some of the lines which are 'proposed' on that 1859 map as being complete lines. The lines from Evansville, IN to Nashville and from Louisville to Nashville, for example must have been built between 1859 and 1861.
