For info of those not familiar with LGG, panic results for one unit cause other units in the same combat to make morale checks, which can bring defeat in a hurry.

You are right, but another big unbalancing bug that I fixed is also the Critical Retreat result that forced a mandatory defeat...

Hmm, what is a "critical retreat" result?

Whilst a log in the background to give internal details makes sense, this game is sold as a turn-based WW1 computer wargame/simulation. It is not sold as a boardgame conversion, so die rolls on screen would be, to me, inappropriate.
That said, the feedback currently given during battles is really not helpful. Sometimes a half-second red message says a unit is disorganised, or whatever, at the same time as the 'fog of war' lifts - maybe - for its half second on a different screen area. Sometimes nothing much happens at all: if I look, I can see that my unit got wounded, but what happened to the opponent's? And sometimes the battle just abruptly ends.
So, in my view, much better visual feedback is needed, but I don't think rolling dice would do the job.

In fact I'm not planning to add die roll animations on screen. Instead, the Combat Logs will have text rows such as "6 die rolled, modified by +1 for..." ;)

Excellent. Please have a look at SSG's Korsun Pocket that does that in an extremely well done manner.

Although this is interesting, I would say that what I would like to see in a battle report would be what some "grognards" would call bells and whistles - but I am not a "grognard" ;) - namely a detailed report of units involved, casualties (in number of men, cannons, etc). It would help a lot, at least to me, to immerse myself in the game

Sorry but that doesn't make sense, the game *IS* a boardgame conversion, up to the CRT ! :) So die rolls are "appropriate" - and useful for those who wants to master the combat system.
Others can just not look at them...

Here is a battle that somehow I lost as the Germans in the August 1914. I am using the latest and greatest patch 1.05e with Army-by-Army activation in the 2 player GC.

I crushed the Russians and their last unit was shaken. However, after using my magnifying glasses to inspect the cross swords on the battle results screen, the Russian's swords appeared to be facing up. Checking the map afterwards, showed the Russians still in Tannenberg which confirmed their victory.

As a side note for Calvinus or PhilTibb, would it be possible to get the binocular view of the battle area (in the center of the battle screen) to be zoomed out a little so we can see a wider view of the map areas involved? I can't tell you how many battles I fight, but cannot determine where it is on the map.
