Heheh, baloons!

Wed Aug 15, 2007 8:01 pm

I don't use them much but once playing as the Union I put my baloons over Fredericksburg (my main army being still in Alexandria). And wow! The baloon "stood" over the city for several turns! Is there a way the CSA may shoot it down? Or baloons are invulnerable and only limited by food the carry?
Thx

Yes, I floated them deep behind enemy lines and placed them over one region for several turns. It is lame and gamey so I am not sure if it is WAD. Maybe there are some folks out there who are well versed in the arcane knowledge of AACW inner workings and know the answer, heh?

Hmmm, I haven't noticed, but is the CSS Hunley represented in the game? The Reb U-boat arm will be needed to offset the (gamey) Yankee use of airpower.

They did not float really, but where not spotted. Perhaps no CSA unit with a good detection rating was around.

Who needs Pinkerton when the baloons are here to carry the day?

Yes baloon's can be shot down, I had a baloon between Harper's Ferry & Winchester, it was able to last for several months. Benjamin Huger's force had sharpshooters, and was able to take down my baloon, I lost 117 men and took out three.

Huger, you say? That must have been a double cannister then that brought your baloons down. Good to know they baloons aren't invulnerable!
Thx

I should have mentioned that Huger also had 12lbx2 & 6lbx4.
