Usually the opitmal way is to put arty in corps, made of inf divisions : 2 inf + 2 arty /medium or heavy/ for example. But I have not tried creating arty corpses, so you can of course, experiment a bit.

There being up to 9 elements/Corps, there is often room for extra elements which could be units of 1-2 artillery or single-element specialist troops. Or infantry formations that have lost an element or two.

I have thought about but have not tried an all artillery or mostly-artillery corps for sieges. It is not an efficient use of Cmd Pts since a Corps costs 12 and each artillery brigade just 1. Also, since infantry or cavalry is needed to take up combat frontage in a fight, I always attach artillery in the field to a stack with line troops who have a suitable commander.

The advantage of a corps formation is that it will distribute the hits it receives among it's elements and is therefore more difficult to destroy rapidly. A full artillery corps would in that regard be a bad idea since the artillery would get all the hits. You need at least some infantry to soak up most of the hits and protect your artillery.

But there is some room for experimenting, I'd be interested in results of a corps composition like 2 militia divisions and 4 arty (2 med arty and 2 heavy or 4 heavy). Militia to take the hits, heavy arty to deliver the damage. Problems would be that you need that corps to be committed during battle or it would be a waste, and if that corps get hit really hard (like it sometimes happen in aje combat system) you would lose a tremendous amount of invested resources at once.
-There is safety in numbers.
-Well there is also death in numbers. It's called a massacre.
