Recommended Starting Scenario for AJE?

Hi all, I've just installed and run through the tutorial, and was wondering which scenario might be the wisest to begin with? I have AJE with (as yet) no DLC. I'm not sure if the shorter campaigns are necessarily going to be the easiest, and from what I can see, each is a totally separate conflict.
I'm basically an Ageod newcomer, although I have played similar initial scenarios in both RoP and PoN.
You guys have always given me good advice so I thought I'd ask again rather than just pick one and try it

The Marius vs Sulla scenario is from my experience pretty much the easiest as Sulla. Although Mithridates troops have become stronger in recent patches Sulla still destroys any army they can field in a pitched battle and Marius troops are.strong in Italy but Sulla still mops the floor with them once you get him to return to Italy.

Vespesian in the 4 Emperors is another good choice, take your time to destroy the Jewish revolt, influence the Danubian legions to your side and you should dominate relatively easily

I also recomend Marius vs Sulla, as OPT (Sulla). Relatively easy and fun!

I'd say playing Sertorius in the Great Mithridatic War is actually the best to learn from, and I find it a lot of fun to play. Especially because if you do really well you can march on Rome and even fight Crassus after he beats (or loses?) to Spartacus. The most challanging aspect about Sertorius is that you have only a signle 3 star general and supply can be an issue.

If you have Spartacus I would suggest it, otherwise Great Mithridatic War with Sertories is good, it was where I learnt how play.

I had a look at all the starting setups for the 4 Emperors and am playing through the Vespasian campaign - have made lots of mistakes already and am only just over half way through. The short game span is the main appeal, I can replay fairly rapidly until I get the victory. I must say I like the look of the other faction starts too - all very different strategically - this looks promising! Thanks again for all the advice.

aye, first time I played it I was so keen to join in the main fight for Rome I managed to lose Alexandria to the Jewish revolt ... Second time I took my time over securing my rear

Marius vs Sulla is a bit big. Playing as Sertorius in The Great Mithridatic War is much more condensed and lets you play a relatively 'easy' faction. As long as the Romans send their troops east, that is.

Spartacus is also a good one. Rome to learn how to wield the power of the legions and as Spartacus on how to fight as the underdog. Both in the relative condensed Italian theater of operations.

When you feel ou're up to it, the Marius vs Sulla scenario is however one of the most fun to play.

I'd also recommend Spartacus War, if you have it. A small map with not too many armies to manage, but it still offers some interesting strategic options, particulary when playing as the slaves.

Well, much to my surprise I achieved a minor victory with Vespasian, at first time of trying, despite not having completely destroyed the Judean rebels or having taken control of Rome - now to see how well I can do in a second attempt
