I know that bushwackers are raiders. Not sure about the others...
You can always look them up on the Wiki, though. :)

I assume by rangers you mean the Texas Rangers. These are a form of mounted militia, not quite cavalry, not quite infantry. In game they indeed serve as raiders or counter raiders (they should be good to intercept indian raids). In open combat they aren't all that useful (but still better than nothing). You can raise these as Confederate player in Texas...

Pioneers. The only units of this type I'm aware of in the game are part of a Union Elite brigade. I'm not sure they have any particular function. You will receive this brigade automatically, so nothing you can do about it...

Bushwackers are a type of mounted partisan available to the Confederate player. These can appear automatically, but you also get to raise some. I believe they will only appear in a few states, mostly Missouri, but not sure about that. Like the Texas rangers these are raiders, probably less effective as counter raiders but I'd have to look into their stats to be sure...

Mosby's Rangers I believe would come with Mosby via event. This unit is more or less the same as the Bushwackers, just that it appears in Virginia (or at least on the Seaboard)...

I might as well mention Indian units (Watie's Civilised Indians, the Sioux, the Union player also receives a few). While these come in several, slightly different types, they are also more or less mounted raiders/counter raiders and appear via event...

I believe all of these types (except mayb pioneers) would fall under the category of troops that cannot capture enemy towns without the support of a regular unit. But they can usually destroy depots within such towns (assuming the depot is not, or no longer defended)...

Indians and Partisans can capture towns depending on the loyalty level. I thought it was 50%

Yes, I didn't know what level of loyalty was required, which is why I said "cannot capture enemy towns...". I could have made the enemy bit a bit more clear though ;-) ...

In the game, these units are just flash usually. Most are regular infantry. Their actual history is more interesting.
