Tool tip (Colonial placements). War Ministry (F2)

Wed Sep 21, 2011 4:04 pm

Patched to M but always had this problem(?).

1. When placing a card in Colonial Build mode I receive tool tip to effect that I cannot do this for reason xxx. In actual fact the card has been placed - pith helmet icon showing.

2. Screen F2-War Ministry shows for example HMS xxx Transport Ship: "Weight 0". Surely, if this is a transport vessel then weight it can carry should be more than 0.

Am I missing something?

thats the weight of the ship itself. what your looking for is transport capacity. in f2 click on the vesel icon, find it then place your mouse one it if there isnt too many boats (from the top of the screen to botom full of names, ive got that) you should see transport capacity at bottom.

just for i am curious, regarding colonial action, does the card pool for it change?

i mentioned it few days ago, the graphical icon of the helmet is behaving buggy.

if you delete the action manually by click, the helmet is still there until next colonial card is used in the province. could be the same root problem.

same is true for the deleted cards from the bug with the roads.

(Pocus said its a text problem only, but in my saved game all but two provinces were unable to draft the road card or colonial road card and all my roads-under-construction were terminated at once)

Thank you both for prompt replies.

@Jamitar My F2 screen shows nation flag with name of unit. I don't have any vessel icon. I did however find out capacity by clicking the flag which closed F2 and showed me the vessel. Tool tip which showed 0/20 for the fleet which, I presume, means I have 20 weight I can load.

@yellow ribbon Colonial Build card did reduce by 1 although message was as I stated.
Another peculiarity: was able to place build rail cards for two areas in India but could not place third - tool tip: "not near water!!!"

Whilst I am here (lol) - I am, for some reason which escapes my tired old brain, not able to complete the following: separate commander from stack (success), place on ship (success stack = commander + ship) move to xxx unsuccessful. Perhaps only the transfer of Commander takes place this turn?

After several attempts move succeeded! Another Senior Moment :bonk:

QUOTE

"not able to complete the following: separate commander from stack (success)"

well, thats the utmost easy.

normally just click on the leader or unit of the stack and then drag and drop it to another place in the area.

moving is also only drag and drop action

i cant follow you completely with problem of the "succesful"... certainly you do not want to drop a commander right at sea, do you ;)

No indeed. He can't swim! All ok regarding movement :)

A point re GB: I notice that rank of leader is quoted as Admiral. Able to command land forces. Strange.

yeah, thats true, but actually seniority, thus combat experience makes the decision who leads the troops in the battle, if not defined explicitly...

i saw the only admiral of the confederate states of america fighting against my generals, while Jeff Davis stood by and watched.

believe me, he had more strategic experience than Davis :D

but dont worry, most of the qualities admirals have, dont give any bonus to land troops and thus there is nearly no positive effect but the nice gold on the uniform and metal on his chest...

its like having a french marshal but no wine in the trenches of Verdun, it would not work... ;)

About the colonial decision problem, we need the current turn to see why the message says you cannot use that decision but it is played anyway.
You can compress the turn and send it over to:

Ok, I have received the email... but you don't tell which colonial decision exactly.
It is with all of them?... or only with one?

Sorry for error. Build Rail in Amristar & panipan show green but not allowed: "not near water".

All my other Colonial requests that have been successful (pith helmet showing) receive tool tip message that I cannot do this.

Sorry, but I do not understand what you mean... can you maybe take some screenshots or maybe put a step by step guide?

I take your saved game, I try to build a RR on Amristar and I can't because I do not have enough Mfg Goods... the tooltip clearly states that: "You lack sufficients assets to build this structure".

About the colonial decisions... I have played a lot of them around India on your saved game without any problem... military outposts, merchants, missionaries, schools, immigrants, etc... and all are played correctly and show the correct tooltip.

So, I cannot reproduce anything of what you say on my end with your saved game and the 1.01n beta patch... or I am not understanding your report... :D

well,

its a wild guess, but now, seeing this, i think you clicked on a anchorage or harbor or anything like this and then moved by the right arrow to the RR section without clicking on it or on the structures...

at least thats the way how you can get this messages, the pop up window with exactly this text...

i confirm for India, "patch 1.01 November" 1850s, RR should work, as Gen. stated

i cannot identify the gold frame around the RR-picture which i see here right on my screen if i click on it. whats supporting my guess.

however, i can reproduce the problem with the helmet.

if my roads (ordered before patch November) get canceled, icon stays but decision is out of limits for it

if i end a colonial action manually, icon for helmet stays

if i get a message in the next turn, the colonial action was aborted for some reason, helmet icon stays too...

Thanks for prompt reply. From this second s/shot you will see, through top of tool tip that the rail icon is placed (similar to pith helmets). Rail card shows gold frame. So, this time it worked!

well, then in the area there is a RR under construction yet...

i had to test it, i never used the arrow before and would have even thought the select frame would walk with them, as it does with scrolling ;)
