naval battle

Hey guys have any of you noticed or had something like this happen? I sent my seven steam frigates as confederacy to go attack the shipping lane but before i got there i ran into yankee transports carrying some troops somewhere and end up winning the fight and killing all the troops on board the transports but not sinking any transports ships i find this funny because it be pretty hard in real life to kill every soldier on a ship without destorying it or capturing it.
all it did was kill the troops on board and thats it.

Dead Yankees are dead Yankees -at least they wont be landing anywhwere to cause havoc?

I think I have seen it mentioned elsewhere that ships are not often destroyed in this game.
