Conquering Bare Regions

Wed Feb 27, 2008 1:13 pm

I have noticed that sometimes when I have troops enter a region that is listed as opposition but has no city or town that it takes the (orange stance) offensive posture and 'Conquers' (for lack of a better word) that region.

It will show that I received some supplies and it will now be green.

Maybe I just havn't paid that much attention to it till the end of my game I just completed but it seems that IF the enemy does the same thing to me and surronds my Depot then I am out of supply and I have only a platform and no cannonballs in the Depot town.

So my question is this:

Can a General take a region by himself without troops and if so does his posture need to be set on Orange?
OR
Can troops WITHOUT a General so the same thing or can Indians do the same thing?

I can see where this can be of a great advantage and I really didn't pay too much attention to it at first as I had won the game early and just wanted to play on.

But the North is resiliant if nothing else and had a bunch of my guys out of supply even tho they where fighting a useless campaign at that point.

Does anyone else make it part of there strategy to 'take regions; whenever thier raiders go into enemy territory, or to take all regions AND defend barron regions around thier cities (I noticed this in Missouri more than anywhere).

It really does make a huge difference late in the war when you have all your divisions used up.

If what I am saying makes sense any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Grudge, I know that you cannot take a region with a General, troops without a General can take the region, and I believe Indians cannot take regions.

Entering a region where you have less than 5% control automatically forces your stacks into attack (orange) mode. It does not matter if the region has structures or depots.

The speed of gaining control of a region is dependent on the size of the unit involved. It is possible that a single cavalry unit could gain control of a region as you describe, but it will take a long time.

Having control of regions is needed for tracing supply lines between your depots. It would be necessary to control regions around your cities only to the extent of building these supply lines or cutting enemy supply lines.
