Militia to regulars

Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:39 pm

I keep seeing on the posts that a cheap way to get regular's is to buy militia and then they will turn to regulars.
Now what I am not clear about is this, Will they turn to regulars on there own?
OR
Do they have to acquire battle exp and when they have enough they turn to regs?
OR
Do you HAVE to have a training officer and put them with him and they will change over?

That being said How do you know when they change over?
Does The M in a box insignia just go away and thats it or does it get another insignia?
Also, aprrox how long does it take to change over?

Thanks, I have looked everywhere for these specifics and can't find any definitive answers.

No, training officers train conscripts to regulars, but the change from militia to conscript is only done by the event engine. You don't have a hand on militia change; it's random, and the event engine picks all militia units on the board and applies a small chance of conversion to them (5-10%).

May I suggest you read through the wiki? Well worth the time.

Then what good are training officers, if any?

Training Officer

If the commander, will train up to two regiments of Conscripts to regular soldier every turn.

Training Master

Provides 1 experience point every turn to all the troops in the Stack by drilling them.

All troops move through a ranked improvement progression. The progression is militia, volunteers, conscripts, early war and late war troops. The progression is automatic. You can improve the speed of progession at the conscript level by using a training officer.

In addition, each militia unit has a small percentage chance of disbandment each year if they haven't achieved volunteer status first. Once a unit achieves volunteer status, that units should eventually move through each troop ranking until they finally achieve late war status infantry.

Experience is gained from training masters or through good battle performance. Experience improves unit performance by upgrading certain base stats of the unit ranking (militia, volunteers, conscripts, early war or late war troops).
