CSA avoiding starvation?

Tue Oct 28, 2008 4:19 pm

Hi
I have played CSA in some long PBEM games and going into 1864 my armies get starving. However I am now playing one game as Union in which we are going to enter 1865 and CSA armies seem to be well supplied, despite having lost Savannah, Charleston and most of TN. I am keeping a 45% blockade, cutting railroads, etc, but to no avail. I don´t think I am doing worst than my opponents did when I played CSA, and by then I was desperately starving, what is the key to such a succesful solution to CSA supply problems?

A smaller CSA Army maybe??
And/or more investment on industries.
Blockade runners are an excellent for WS and money but for supply you need to spend money on industries.

It could be an issue of supplies not getting to where they supposed to get. i remember having a significant force around Lynchburg in 1864 and I was baffled why it wasn't being resupplied. Petersburg had tons of supplies but they weren't getting to my forces. The reason was probably because they was too far from the nearest depot and/or I didn't have adequate rail transport.

To estimate the degree to which your forces will be resupplied, click on the supply button above the minimaps in the lower left hand corner. The 'strength' bar under each stack on the main map should turn green, yellow, or red. This will indicate the degree to which that stack will be resupplied the next turn.

I'm all but certain that the unit coloration in supply view indicates current supply, not what you'll receive during the upcoming supply phase...

Just remember that units draw supply from their current region and any immediately adjacent regions. Depots pull supply to them, but units just use them up. Point being that there needs to be a supply point (city or depot, or a supply unit) somewhere within a region of the stack's location.

I'm with ohms.
The coulour shows the current supply reserves of the stack. The same than the supply icon you see over the unit panel.
Its just a way to see at a glance which stack has or lacks supply.

If it has a supply wagon, the stack doesn't have to be adjacent, it can be up to 5 regions away from a depot.
