Your thoughts on a companion excel booklet sheet for your ACW campaign/pbem games

Fri May 02, 2008 8:02 pm

Greetings Everyone,

I'm curious to your throughts, or maybe I've missed it, and someone can point it out, but there is really not a history feature within the game that can keep track of all the battles you have won or loss, and most importantly, a simple detailed window that has your chain of command with your armys and such. Granted, the latter is not as big of a deal, then the first, but I was wondering..

I'm in the process of working on an excel booklet sheet, that has important information you can jot down about your army. EG, your army commanders, corps commanders, division commanders, for each indiviual armies and such.

Most importantly, a 2nd tab, that keeps track of your won-loss battles, who was in command, casuality listing for that battle, and if applicable, those who recieved high honors (EG:, those generals that increased senority for performing well in battle)

Now, I'd figure, this would not only be a good tool when you play against the AI, but also for your fellow PBEM games, as you can record the battles you've had (Maybe not all if you wish, but the major battles), and see how everything racked up during your campaign.

Would people be interested in this? Let me know, and of course, with other thoughts and ideas that could be added..

thank you,

MP

Im sure it is a good idea, but seems to me a too much hard to fill all those reports. I imagine you are talking some AUTOMATIC thing similar to HoI leaders battle performance.

Remember by turn 40 there an be around 1300 units on the battlefield....Imagine keep track of all those units, division reformed turn after turn.

During the early 1.07 patch or so, I did record just experience of all my units during 20 turns in order to be sure how training / upgrading/ and so on went out. (before the points were included)... It was a maremagnum of data, I did found some important things in doing so, and had fun in doing it :tournepas ... just will not do it again!

That is what I'm beginning to realize as well, however, I am still going to work on a battle history report, it'd just be something handy, and basically to see what were the major battles and all in your campaigns, basically, which one you think was the turning point, etc.. so I should have that posted within a few hours, if anyone is interested in it ..

I tried to keep such a record especially as I recently went on holiday for a whole month and did not play game. When I came back to game after holiday I just could not remember what I had did and why I had done it?
However keeping such a record just plain slows my game playing experience down far too much?

Ya, that is what I'm starting to think as a whole as well, maybe one day I guess, we'll see some feature of a history tracker of the battles, or tree that shows your current chain of command for each army in the game.

thanks for the comments overall though :)

It is a good idea as I like to keep track of what I did and why if I have to leave game for a few days for work reasons etc. Also sometimes my lady needs some attention and she knows how to distract and then I lose plot and thread of game - you know how it goes.

Well, It's already been added to the wishlist thread, i think last may, so we'll see, honestly, if this requires to much recodding , it won't happen, but if it doesn't, i guess ya never know! :)

I have set up my own excel spreadsheet as well. I use it to keep track of what elements are in which division. Then when I do my 'purchases' I allot them to the divisions that need them. Thus, when the units appear on the map, I now know where I intended to send them when I purchased them a couple turns ago. It is time consuming, but sometimes necessary to prevent duplication of purchases if you are playing multiple games. If anyone has a better system, I would happily adopt it as I am still experimenting with how to best set mine up.

Sounds like fun, but with so many games going on I would find it tedious.
