Fighting the AI and the outcome

Thu Jan 10, 2008 12:39 am

i have played all the smaller scenarios over & over agian, and even won once at Manassas and always get a stalemate but ALWAYS lose on points at Gettysberg.

My question is this, How do you know if your in good position to win a battle. I know about the 3 to 1 ratio ect ect but when playing these scenarios I feel like I'm in a crapshoot whenever its calculating the winner of a skirmish (with loaded dice agianst me I might add).

Is it just being a Noob that I am not catching on to the battle thing? Because I bet I have played those 2 scenarios 50 times and I STILL don't have a clue.

Im not talking about out of supply troops or attacking dug in positions (in fact they are usually attacking me as I am a defensive stategist primarily).

I am talking about just the general outcome and how to predict it.

Any Ideas that would help an old man keep his dignaty and NOT be screaming at an inanimate object (as in a computer screen)?

Thanks Guys!!! GrudgeBringer

Factors I can think of

- Terrain, including mud and harsh weather
- Cohesion
- Exceeding CP penalty
- Frontage (how many units can attack at once) - affected by terrain and some other rules
- March to guns - Corps in the same army can march to adjacent regions making it a smaller force much larger
- Offensive/defensive rating of stack commanders
- Stances and ROE (especially for 1.08)
- Amphibious assault penalty
- Leader bonuses like Calvarymen in certain terrain

How many units can attack at once? Let say in an open flat terrain like for instance Stafford Virginia?
