Where are the Marines?

Wed Mar 05, 2008 9:49 pm

Have trouble locating Marines units.

Is there a quick way or a filter in the ledger I can use to find the “Marines” units that I have placed on the map?

Thanks

Well... Normally they go to a few cities, once you play a little. Charleston & the Mississippi cities are the normal places to go. Not remember if Richmond.

The problem is they start "red-locked" a couple turns after creation, so you can not find them with R/E.

Perhaps going to the Roster if you need to see them and try filtering there. They are power 27 aprox, but when created they are only power 1 or 2.. perhaps filtering by strength and going to the last ones.

Yes Richmond. Also Norfolk, Wilmington, Savannah, and Mobile. I think I also saw one appear in Galveston once (might have been Pensacola).

Once they are fully formed up, there will be announcement.

You can also get it mentioned on the event viewer list, when units in general are almost fully trained. You just double click on the event, and if its a training one, it will take you directly to the location of the unit(s) or in this case Marines you are training.

Marine and Medical units

Thu Mar 06, 2008 8:12 pm

I can find the Marine and Medical units when created, as you say, they are mentioned on the event viewer list. Of the 3 Marine units I created playing the CSA they were all created in Mobile, AL. The trouble I have is finding Marine and Medical units after I move and use them some place. I then forget where I placed them. The only way I know is to scroll through the army filter list and that gets very long later in the game. Maybe a filter for special units (Marines, Medical and some other unit I don’t know about) should be added for a future patch!?

Lieutenant Coregonas: I will try the filter by “power 27 aprox “ and see if that narrows the field under the army list. :sourcil:

Also does anyone know what the “Goods” filter is for? I have checked it several times throughout the campaign but nothing ever shows up in the list.

I've noticed that the 'elite' filter either doesn't work or doesn't exist. It should find Marines, but....

'Goods' are a class of units that are not in use in any ACW scenario that I'm aware of. [I'm exploring their use for a mod.]

Is there a use for Marines other then as Elite infantry? For instance, do they give a bonus to naval units or something?

They give you a speed bonus when you're crossing rivers, i.e. you get less of a penalty than you otherwise would be getting.

You only need to have one marine (or sailor or pontoneer) in a stack to receive this bonus, so if you have several marines, spread them out, so that more stacks can benefit from their river-crossing ability.

Would a sailor unit provide the exact same bonus minus the elite infantry part?

Yes, and too my knowledge although marines are considered 'elite infantry' in terms of replacements, they do not provide unit(division) bonuses like the other 'elite' units do, only the pontooner ability.

Union sailors have one additional benefit. They can be brigaded with a zouaves unit, a regular army regiment, or a single upgraded militia unit; to make a moderately powerful, flexible, amphibious raider. It works well alone or in conjunction with other units. It only uses 1 CP.

It is possible to do this with marines, but only with single elite units, of which there are only two that are not marines, both created by event, and they have more important uses.
