I have searched the manual, AACWWikii and on the forum but can not find what the number under the bars (cohesion, manpower) in the Units Attributes counters conveys!? (v. 1.09)

How is that different from the combat value listed at the top of unit counter? Seem like stating the same thing?

If you are referring to attack\defense values these are not the same thing.

The number is the combat power or the combat efficency of the unit, as Barksdale says,
This value is a numerical representation of the strengh of the unit on this moment. The game battle engine does not use this value for his battle calculations, but it serves you (and the AI i suppose) to have an idea of the approximate strenght of a unit.
The power is a "mix" of a lot of "real" factors you can find on the unit detail panel: attack value, deffend value, cohesion, range, troop quality, assault... this values are the ones used by the engine the resolve battles.
But the game gives you the combat power info so you can see at a glance what unit is worth, without having to study all the combat details.

You will see that the "pwr" values are dynamic and may change from turn to turn depending of the circumstances.
A 100 combat power unit can become a 70, 50, or even 10 power unit without losing any men, just by moving around and losing all or most of his cohesion. Resting them will make them recover power.

In my manual p.29 and onAACWWikiunder “Units Attributes”, one of a list of things it states is “Combat Efficiency (numerical value at the top)”. I am assuming this is what you are talking about. Not mentioned or shown in the manual or onAACWWikiis the number under the(purple) cohesion, & (green) manpower bars, but in my game (v1.09) it also shows a number under these bars. What does this number represent and how is it different from the “Combat Efficiency” number?

If its this, dont worry, they are the same!
It seem the numbers were relocated down there on some patch... The units counters looks much clearer now IMHO.
The manual and wiki screens units still use the old ones.

[font=Arial]Also I noticed up in the left hand corner of your 1st a screen shot (part of it cut off) there is the 2 rows & 4 columns “Posture” buttons. In the 2nd row, 2nd column if you mouse over it, it says “Defend: No changes to the standard rules”.[/font]

I think you have to upload the picture to a free hosting web an post the link on the message... but i have never done it
I'm not very tech savvy...
I just upload my pictures like you do, as an attachment to the post.

About the postures: until the 1.08 patch the game did not heve this second row buttons.
Its a feature AGEOD developed for his newer game Napoleon Campaigns and added for free to AACW on that patch
The "Standard rules" means that this button does not change anything.
The units will fight with normal aggressiveness as they did before the 1.08 patch.
The tooltips on the other buttons will tell you the new fight conditions if you push them: on one the units will be ordered to fight nearly "to death" and on others to withdraw earlier.

Tooltips are a key feature. They will appear over just about anything you hold the pointer over.

I personally prefer attachments or links in most cases, particularly for large screenshots. Those give someone the option to look at a picture without scrolling or interrupting the flow of the text, and they don't make your browser lock up or jump around while pictures load.
