River Transorts & Depot Construction

Tue Jan 29, 2008 1:58 pm

I have reread all the information in the manual, Wiki, and on the forums that I could find and I am (as usual) still somewhat confused.

My questions are:
1. Do River transports FORWARD supply, Store supply (or both) just by being on the river and in a region I have 50% control of?

2. If I DO decide to make a 'Depot' out of river transports i understand the process to be to have 2 transports in fairly good condition, Both selected, and hit Shift D or the build Depot Icon.

My question is, do I need to do this just on the river, Close to a town or City...In a town or city, Or on a harbor?

Now what happens after it is built? What I mean is does this 'river depot' become a harbor, or just a depot? And of course what Icon will it show...The Depot Icon, or another special Icon for a river Depot?

I tried my first one last night by Cairo IL. as CSA and the transports dissapeared but I saw nothing else (however there MIGHT have been a new harbor across from where I built it i'm not sure).

My last question is this, IF I build a depot close to enemy lines will I be able to go into the enemy territory supplied or do I need to 'control 50% of the regions forward of the depot?

If you can answer all that It will shut me up for a day or so while I try all this out!!!!

Thanks for ANY help as this portion is somewhat confusing to me.

1. River transports like supply wagons receive, store and physically transport supplies. Unlike depots, they do not forward supplies.

2. To build a depot, you need to be in a harbour or city. The icon shown will be the depot icon. In all respects the river depot is exactly the same as a supply wagon built depot. I have never tried building a depot while the transports are offshore.

3. Once you have built a depot, you will need military control (I believe you need 25% control) in the regions that you want to forward the supplies to. Remember, that further than one region away from the depot, you will need supply wagons/transports in order to receive the supplies.
