Divisions...one more time PLEASE

Sat Jan 19, 2008 1:36 am

I feel like I am back in Algebra class and we just hit Factoring....my pea brain will just NOT accept it!!!

First I have a question or 2 on supply.

1.Do you need to have a supply train to have a division?
2. If I have a division named, say McGruder and he has McGruder supply can I take that supply away from him and give it to someone else without hurting McGruder? And If so will it benifit the new commander just as much?

I guess the gist of it is..If a supply is named Army, Corps, or any Generals name does it have to stay with that designation?

2. Divisions..I just redid the tutorial and reread the manual agian (sigh).

I noticed that in the tutorial that when a brigade or element became part of a division they got the same silver stripe on the bottom of thier Icon that the Div Commander has.

The way a division is made as I understand it is...

1.You (must have the necessary funds ect) hit the button that is lit that gives him his command.

2. You pick up by the tab brigades or single units (medical officer ect) and drop them on the Div tab. They now become silver on the bottom signiifying they are part of the unit.

3. You can have up to 18 elements (does the Division commander count as a element) without penalty and if you have another 1 star added to the stack you can have up to 36 elements without a penalty (does the second commander count as an element?).

I have already asked the question about supply having to be added.

Once you have the division Commander for a turn then no matter how low your supplies, money, ect is they will NOT lose thier command (as long as they have 1 element with them).

Now What am I missing? Because I can't seem to get ny guys up and running. Other than this one HUGE factor I am pretty much on my way to playing.

So If someone could indulge me 1 more time PLEASE.

Thanks guys

1. Correct. You must HAVE the money, conscripts, War Supplies, not just enough in Planned. Leader must be active.
2. Sort of. They are in the same "stack", but not yet in the Division. In the stack, with the "designated commander", you must now [ctrl-click] on each unit you wish to add to the division. Then, click on the "+" button you'll see near the "make division" button. All selected units will "disappear" into the single division "unit". If the "+" doesn't light up, you've exceeded 18, or tried to add an "illegal" unit....
3. Div commander is one of the 18. No, another 1 star will only add command points. Of course, he could form another division in that stack.

Once formed, you don't "lose" the division until you "disband it" (where you don't get your money back) or it gets wiped out! You can "unload and relaod" units later into the same leader at no cost, as long as he ends the turn with forces in his command.

You'll know you've got it if your division looks like a single unit in the units panel when the stack is selected.... :sourcil:

Page 19 starts this process using the tutorial scenario:

Then you can drag these divisions into a 2 or 3 star stack that is a corps or army, or just a group of divisions>... :cwboy:

Hi!
Let's try! :cwboy:
(but bear with my english, i´m not a native speaker...)

Supply

1- No. What's more: its not at all advised to put supply INSIDE a division. You only what combat troops in there. Its OK to make a stack with one or more division + supply.
Ideally you want a supply unit in each medium or big stacks (armies, corps, maybe even with independent divisions...)
2- Yes you can. The name is just a flavor name. All supply wagons are the same. You can use them freely, as you want.

Divsions

1- Yes
2- No. The beginning its ok but... Once you have your leader made a division commander (silver stripe over his name) he becomes something like a container you must fill with combat units.
For this: select the division leader and the units you want to put inside with ctrl + left click (just lilke you select files on windows) and then press the button on the left side, the one with a (+) to merge them.
Then you will only see the leader portrait but you will notice he now have high combat power. If you select or pass your mouse over him you will see the troops you had put "inside".
Don't put medical or other support units inside divisions. Use them alongside divisions, in the same stack but NOT INSIDE.

3- Leader + 17 elements max.
But another leader don't let you pot more units inside a division. You can create another division with him and fill it with another 17 elements.

I think your problem is that you mistake stacks with divisions. :bonk:
Divisions are UNITS, like BIG brigades, but you can build them on game merging several brigades with a leader.
They can be alone in a stack or with others units (other divisions, leaders, supply wagons, brigades...).

More answers...

-Yes, once you had paid for a division it will not disband for need of money/WS. You pay once for them, not every turn.

BUT, remember: you have to put at least another element within your division leader or he will lose the divisional status. But put the element INSIDE THE DIVISION, not alongside the leader in the same stack.

Hope it helps!

You will see, once this concepts make "click" i your head you will realize its very simple (and fun!! :niark: )

Cheers!

Edit: :bonk: lodilefty was faster!
