RE: Question about HQ...still need help please

Wed Jan 16, 2008 8:49 pm

OK, I have Johnson (CSA) about to unlock and he has no HQ in his stack so I can not make him a 'General of the Army'.

If I read the post right it says to go to the REINFORCEMENT screen and hit the SUPPORT tab and I can recruit a HQ.

I have played 2 turns AFTER he has unlocked and there is NO HQ unit in the support tab.

The REPLACEMENT screen has a HQ area and it let me build one just like a milita or Cav unit.

But it doesn't show up in Jonnson's Army either.

So my question is....Does the HQ units actually appear in the support tab of the REINFORCEMENT screen at some designated time and allow me to build one?

Or will the one I built in the REPLACMENT screen suddenly appear in johnsons army?

I understand they are likely to be few and far between but you would think as accurate as this game is on details that Johnson would get his army about the same time he unlocks so as to fight at manassas.

Could someone PLEASE clarify this as I am stuck till I find out the answer.

Army HQs are built like any other units.

When you set one to be built, it will appear on the map (usually in your capital) the next turn. There, it will accumalte cohesion and hits till it is (almost) fully ready. This process takes a few turns and during this, the army HQ unit will be locked, i.e. you can't move it. When it is almost fully cohesive and at full health, it will no longer be locked, and it will be visible e.g. when you ERTY.

At this point, you can either move it to Johnson, or vice versa. In order to create an army out of Johnson, you'll need to have the Army HQ unit in the same stack as him.

Army HQs will appear under the support tab, a message in the log will alert you about this...I don´t remember how many turns into the April campaign it happens, but it will...the CSA can have a total of at least 4 armies at any given time eventually...if not 5, I can´t remember exactly, and 3 more if you manage to bring the UK and France into the war (2 UK and 1 French HQ)

Hi!
Yes, you will have to wait till summer (not sure which turn) to get the first HQ to build.
And also will receive another free HQ on the west at the end of summer (with the arrival of AS Johnston).
For the moment, J. Johnston can lead a corps on Beauregard army or you can make him the army leader and put Beauregard as corps commander.
Both are capable leaders.
I think that on first manassas there was just one (small and still half organized) CSA Army on the field: Beauregard's.
Johnsons Command joined him and helped Beuregard on the battle. But if i´m not mistaken, Joe wasn't the top ranking general.

Cheers!

Grudgebringer said it was OK to post my answer to his PM here, so I will.

For the record, I like to see follow-ups to discussions in the discussion threads. In this case, pablius, arsan or anyone else who has stopped by this thread could perhaps have answered the questions sooner than me :)
GrudgeBringer wrote:You said that the HQ was built like any other unit....is this in the replacement or reinforcement screen.
In the reinforcement screen.

The reinforcement screen is where you build new units.
The replacements screen is where you build replacement chits, which the game uses to repair and rebuild your existing units.
GrudgeBringer wrote:Because there is NO HQ square or area in the reinforcement area and unless it just shows up at some time predesignated then it HAS to be in the Replacement screen. This has an area marked HQ and you CAN build one but it doesn't show on the events screen when it arrives and where.
There are limits to how many you can build of each variety of unit. If you have reached (or even surpassed) the limit, that particular variety of unit will not be displayed in the reinforcement screen. From time to time, the limits are increased, but I don't have an overview of when that happens, nor which units get their limits increased. Army HQs are one variety of unit that gets its limit increased from time to time though.

Did you find it?
GrudgeBringer wrote:After I built the one in the replacement screen it would NOT let me build any more so I assume they are pretty rare.
AFAIK, the replacement screen will at most let you buy one chit for each element you have on the map that belongs to a given family.

for the militia unit as soon as they succeed in training, you may recruit another militia unit.
for artillery and supply, if you use them for building depots or forts, you may recruit them again.
for the others unit it is probably limited by the loyalty of the state so if you raise your loyalty you may have a few more unit
