Light Artillery upgrading to field Artillery?

Fri Aug 31, 2007 9:24 pm

Evening!

I'm not sure if this is a bug, WAD or even only a fidget of my imagination :tournepas , but I think I have had light artillery upgrade to field artillery all by themself and without message.

In my PbEM with wyrmm (how, I'm afraid, is gonna wipe the floor of the Richmond White House with me, but that's another matter :niark: ), I built a batch of four batteries of light Artillery in one state (in order to be abnle to build a fort someplace else). They showed up next turn, as light artillery, all in the same stack. However, in a later turn the NATO-icon of one battery had changed from light to "normal" field artillery. And in the turn after that it happened to another battery in the same stack.

Both "upgraded" batteries do not show up as light batteries in the roster anymore, but the reinforcement ledger still shows four light batteries as already built in that state (and no field artillery at all). I'm puzzled...

BTW: You can't mix batteries of different classes of Arty (Light, field, Horse or Siege) to build a fort with, can You?

Regards, Henry

There are in fact events which change/upgrade (with a certain probability) Light Arty to Medium Arty without an event message. Seems to be WAD.

Yes, you can't mix them.
I think.
90% sure. :p

Gnaaah, serves me right for being such a cheapskate and not building medium arty in the first place. :fleb: :niark:

Thanks! :)

Don't tell me that you bought some light arty and planed to build a nice fort as one unit was upgraded and the other not so that you are not able to build it anymore?! :bonk:

LOL
Sorry... I feel you pain. ;)

OK, if this can happen it is a real problem. In this case it would be indeed better if you are only able to build a fort with medium arty. Or that it is allowed to mix them. (Have you tried? I am really not 100% sure that a arty-mix isn't allowed...)

Haven't tried it in this game yet, but I vaguely recall trying it once or twice in SP and failing. Since I'm an old man and slightly senile, I asked again to be sure... :siffle:

Well, wyrmm already managed to raid Springfield/IL (the presidents home plundered by filthy rebels, what a disgrace!), Lyon didn't win a single battle yet, cash and Manpower are at a low ebb (Houserule: no conscriptions until late april 1862) and Foreign Intervention is already a whooping 42 by early Juli 1861. Not being able to build one fort as planned seems to be one of the Unions minor problems at the moment... :niark:

mixed types are allowed. If you can't buy a fort, this can be because your units are too depleted, or you lack MC.

You can?

Not that it matters much anymore, by now all 4 light batteries have transformed into field arty...
