Unit disappears cause crash with save game.

Sun Aug 26, 2007 10:57 pm

I have had this crash occur from time to time over multiple games.

When I move and merge units, sometimes the game will crash. Recently I noticed that a unit moved for merger would disappear before the crash. Today I had it happen again. And I saved the game and log.

The units involved are located at Stafford, Virginia. Look at Heintzelmans command. Note that the unit display at the bottom indicates Heintzelmans command contains 3 units. However only 2 units are actually displayed. If I do any further action with Heintzelmans command, the game will crash.

I am fairly certain, the missing unit is one of the original brigades available at the start of the game. I believe it was the III/1 brigade. (The log does say the "invisible" unit was the III/1 brigade. And claims it has No SU in unit????)

This crash has happened a number of times in previous games.

The zipped file with save game and log is attached.

Here is the pertinant part of the log file end--

Ok checked, the TRN file is valid, but the ORD file has this problem. If you redo the turn (deleting the ORD), you see that Heintzelman Div when split forms up the III/1st with 3 elements. Not in the ORD file, the III/1st is there but without elements and thus is not properly displayed (and will causes crash) if you manipulate Heintzelman stack.

The safer thing would be to redo the turn by deleting the ORD file. I'm sorry, I can't backtrack exactly what happened in the turn planification which resulted in this weird thing.
