Sound issue

Sun May 20, 2007 11:07 pm

Minor issue, really, but since the first version, I have consistently experienced a problem that seems absurd (but "normal" to "veteran" PC gamers, that are used to every silliness in our beloved hobby). When I fire up AACW for the first time on a PC session, I never get music and sound, on a new or saved game. I have always to start AACW, quit, and then start again to have music and sound (Voodoo, anyone ? :tournepas ), although with some delays, between the musics. This has happened allways, if I remember correctly, and certainly has nothing to do with the beta patch.

It is not really a major issue to me, as I almost always play with sound on a mininum, and sometimes and I do not really notice it. But it does not happen in other games...; and the music is good... :p leure:

If some of the high-priests of PCientology care, I send my Dxdiag file attached...

Good gaming

perhaps updating the driver of the sound chipset would help. Aside that I don't quite know. Note that it is normal to have the music play with delays between 2 songs, this is a WAD.

A good a time tested advice, my rodent friend. Unfortunately, my audio drivers (nforce2 4.62) are the latest ones for this chipset, although from 2005.
So, I will proceed to step 2 of the usual workflow :bonk: : starting the aplication (in this case AACW) standing only on the right foot, facing west and chanting a prayer to the Fiji god of coconuts :niark:

Well there's where you're going wrong. Standing on the right foot is for graphics problems, it's LEFT foot for sound problems! :sourcil:

Seriously though, you might want to try the following. Do a DX-9 install to make sure that's up to date and then reinstall your sound drivers. With older sound drivers, I've seen them start doing strange things if you upgrade DirextX.

Thanks for your advice, Frank E
I already re-installed those drivers last year, but I did it again today, but the same idiotic behavior persists :bonk:

oh well, that's life...

Looking at your other thread about textures, it seems like there's something strange going on with your system. It almost sounds like a hardware problem.

Assuming that wiping it and reinstalling everything would be too much of a hassle, here's a few things you could try that might help if your problem is software/driver related.

- Reset the bios to default settings
- Remove the omega drivers
- reinstall DirectX
- reinstall your audio and video drivers

That should give you a relatively clean install for all your video and audio options.

Thank you, Frank E, for your help.
I am certainly open and thankful for all and any sugestions, and I may follow yours.
Nevertheless, I have currently installed on my PC several other games (namely, TC2M, Galactic Civilizations II/Dark Avatar, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, Rome and Medieval II Total War), that do not give me any similar problems (notwhitstanding the old memory leak of the Total Wars and GC, recognized by the developers and more or less fixed). Certainly no sound issues and no graphic glitches (only the obvious limitations in the high quality options for instance in NWN 2 and M2TW). Of course, this PC also is for work (MOffice, etc), internet, etc., and no problems in that area. Besides, I have never had changed my BIOS options until AACW, and even with my "original" BIOS options (the only ones that I changed, by the way, were AGP aperture and the fastwrites) I had these graphical crashes with AACW.
Even more, also on my laptop (with an X700 and 1 Gig RAM) I have also experienced the same type of error with textures.

So, as I am a persistent guy (some may say stubborn - hope that in a Stonewall Jackson way and not in a J Bell Hood way), I am not completely finished with my struggle. More later on the "textures thread" :sourcil:
