How do files become corrupted?

What does it mean? Once this happens the game will not cooperate at all. I was just wondering what causes files to become corrupted and can they be repaired so that the game you are playing can continue. I've gotten the "file corrupted must shut down" message and it usually happens when I am just clicking around the map or on a battle report screen etc..Wondering if these can be avoided somehow and if they can be corrected when they do happen.

What is the exact message? There are some reports that the file is not correctly saved at the end of hosting (0 byte in size), but the files are not touched while you scroll the map.

You can check the saves directory for your game and restore manually the last backup, if you are unable to restore it in-game though.
