Serial number

I am reloading on a new computer and when I enter my serial key as asked it states in is not correct lenght
The last key is hard to read and cut off but I think it is a 1
however that string is 6 characters where all the rest are 5 so i am not even sure if I need to enter
I tryed not entering the last character but it didn't help
please advise
