MSVCP71.dll error

Sun Oct 25, 2009 1:44 pm

Hello

I foolishly thought to completely reinstall AACW to apply the new patch; unfortunately having done so I'm having trouble with reinstalling.

After installation, on first run of game, I get for ActiveMovie Window: AACW.exe: "This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application my fix this problem".

I then have to use TaskManager to shut the message and AACW down.

However, I have tried unistalling then reinstalling several times - but just get the same issue.

Anyone come across this before?

Thanks

Sounds ugly. :bonk:

I found this, maybe it will help. It seems you may have 'ugly register syndrome'

..but, no, I've never used this fix, so best I can say is caveat emptor...

Good Luck!

Hi!

Never had this problem (and i have installed and reinstalled AACW like 100 times ;) ).
In fact it's a good idea to do a fresh install like you did from time to time instead of patching 20 times over the same installation. Something can get weird

Your problem seems to be that you lack that .dll on your windows installation :bonk: Maybe it got corrupted or erased lately by accident.

I' no computer expert, but i have solved dll problems easily other times on my PC as you can download dll freely from some of the dll webs around (just put the dll name on google). Like this one
http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcp71

If you are using windows xp, just download, extract from the zip/rar and copy it to the Windows/system32 folder.
After that, the game should work Ok.

If your are using Vista beware, i don't know if works the same :bonk:
Cheers!

Thanks guys.

Tried what you suggested (I am on XP SP3), but no joy so far. Still see the message after having copied the .dll file into System32.

Tried redownloading the .exe from DigitalRiver in case my installer was corrupt in some way (mentioned as a possible problem on one registry site), but predictably could not get in there either; was rejected as I needed cookies enabled....which they are anyway. *sigh*.

I'll move over to Windows 7 sometime soon. I guess I'll try reinstalling then. Until then I'll need to go off and play something else.

What arsan said should be enough. Perhaps now the missing file is different?

MSVCR71.dll

If this is the case do the same and copy it on your windows/system32 folder.

Edit: one more thing just in case. As arsan said the .dll posted above is zipped. So did you unzip it?

Whoah Nikel !!!

Are you peeking at my registry???

That indeed did it...I had missed that the error message was showing MSVCR71.dll.

That did it!

You guys are amazing. Thanks very much.

I am very much impressed by everyone's help and support.

Cool! Glad it worked finally! :w00t:
Nikel is a crack!
That dll errors are usually windows related. Don't worry about your AACW installer file. Surely it's OK :)
