Crash to Desktop Recurring Problem

Sun Aug 24, 2008 5:02 pm

:p leure:

I am running Vista Ultimate on my desktop with 4 gigs of RAM; 3.4 MgH processor [Pentium IV]; ATI video card has a recently updated driver [problem existed before and after].

This has pretty much randomly occurred in the past, but seems to have increased in frequency since about patch 1.10. Seems to have no rhyme nor reason; every 2-10 turns, or so, BOOM --- CTD.

During turn resolution, I'll get a "encountered an error" message; then supply phase will continue - uninterrupted - before crashing to desktop. I'll restart the game, and it will continue normally after I press "next turn". It picks up right where it left off without encountering any errors.

Does anyone else experience this? I can't figure out if it is a Vista problem, a problem unique to my machine, or a bug. Since it is not reproducible [in the same turn] I've not sent saves.

What does "Main.log" say? (you'll find this logfile in the "log"-directory)

Yes, this seems to be a bug related to some gameplay code, but it should be reproducible in this case, if you run the turn another time. Is it not?

Hello, Richfed. Even with 4G RAM, this could be memory related, as it is not dissimilar with the kind of errors that I used to have a few months ago. Try to lower Mem usage to, say, 25% in the game options. It will not hurt... :cwboy:

I'm also finding that the option 'Load textures at start' or whatever it's called, helps this if turned off.

I've reduced texture sizes in options also to help.
Always ask yourself: "Am I part of the Solution?" If you aren't, then you are part of the Problem!

Thanks for the suggestions, guys - and, I will try them. They may help with some of those crashes.

This last one, though, is for real - I cannot get past the turn.
