where o' where are my saved games going?

Sun Oct 14, 2007 3:48 am

I had a game crash and I wanted to submit my save game and log but my saves folder is empty. When I start and load the saved game however it loads so something must be somewhere! I am running Vista and am not quite used to it yet so that probably is the problem, any ideas or do I need to have you come over and look at my hard drive for me? I know you guys get lots of vacations how about some time in Illinois, its not frozen solid yet.

I've heard mentioned that Vista sometimes seems to make your directories "disappear" and render difficult (impossible?) to find, so I think you're right in blaming Vista. Image

However, I don't have any experience with Vista myself, so I can't offer any advice on how to fix it.

If you are using Vista, disable User Account Control via Control Panel. Reboot. Your game saves will magically appear!!

Very bad idea all kinds of problems started. Couldn't even start the game after doing that. Not to mention some of my other background programs starting to go flaky

That shouldn't be ... the "feature" [more annoying than anything else] is made to be able to turn on or off.

My experience has been exactly the opposite to yours Major. Many programs and features work better without UAC. I don't know.

Perhaps the problem is that this computer has multiple accounts set up on it? I don't know either. and I appreciate your trying to help, but I still couldn't see the save games and acw.exe wouldn't run in the standard account I normally use. I did find out however that in the Admin account the .exe ran fine. I,m not sure I understand, let me take that back, I am totally mystified why Microsoft thought this was somehow helpful.

Hm, You heard that from me, didn't You?

That's right, but thanks to richfed I could disable the romulan cloaking device... :niark:

I'm the only user account on my machine, though...

However, I have an all new problem, too:

When I try to zip an entire folder with winzip, the zip.file disappears instantly... :8o: Single files or all files in one folder zipped into the same zip-file works just fine, though...

Vista remains to be a fountain of never-ending bewilderment to me... :tournepas

Regards, Henry :)

Ehh, I just wanted to send a "multi-file"-zip which I had created earlier, and it is gone, too. When trying to zip the files again, the new zip doesn't show up in the save directory either... :p leure:

I give up, I'm sure Vista is already laughing about me behind my back... :tournepas
