Windows 7 Install Problems

Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:20 pm

I simply get a message that says compatability issues when I try to click on the install .exe for AACW on my new computer with windows 7. It says the version of this file is not compatable with the version of windows I'm running. I've tried to run it in compatability mode, but to no avail.

But you just can't run the installer anyway? (ignoring the message)
I haven't tried AACW on my computer with W7, but I've installed other AGEOD games without a problem...

I just re-installed AACW on my new Win 7 system this afternoon w/ no problems so far. I did modify the install path to c:\games ( a new folder for all my games)\AACW

To the OP: be sure to not install your games to C:\Program Files

I installed the game using default folder and it installed with no problems on Windows 7.

I tried the windows 7 troubleshooting and it detects as an incompatabile application. Not sure if it has anything to do with my new laptop, but I copied the original .exe or ACW setup file from my old windows vista computer. Thought I would bring it along on my laptop for my Iraq deployment. Any other ideas to try out to get it to install? I also downloaded patch 1.15, I think it was a stand alone, but it says I'm missing a .dll file when I try it that way.

the patch needs the full install before anyway.

Have you tried to actually install everything, despite what windows 7 says? It warned me too for some apps but they run fine (namely my whole development environment!)

Is there a way to try to force it to install? I click open on the ACW_setup and it just immediately says the program is not compatible, will not even let me attempt to install. Maybe I just need to re-download the original install again. Not sure, I got the original via the ageod website back in early 2008 I think.

I had similar messages when I first tried loading Civ 4/BTS on Win 7. What finally worked for me was to run all .exe files (e.g., setup) as administrator, i.e. right click on the file and click on the compatibility tab. I also did the same for all patches.

I then actually successfully installed Civ 4 to the original default folder.

For both AACW and WIA, I established a separate games folder under c: and manualy installed to c:\games w/o going thru the compatibility/administrator thing.

I had the option to still install, but it is true that I disabled completely the UAC. :neener:

Try lower its settings just for this install.

Lowering the UA settings didn't change anything, still get the error message that the application is incompatible.

Try disabling it completely and then restarting the computer before installation
