Need some help...

Fri Jan 02, 2009 7:30 pm

Hi,

I just re-formatted my computer last night. I did a new install of AACW 1.10, patched it up to 1.12 and it won't run. It get's to 70% on the textures loading and then gives me a message that it has encountered a problem and must close.

What do I need to post up here to help you help me?

Thanks!
My name is Aaron.

Sorry to hear you're having problems, soloswolf :(

Main.log from the ACW\Logs-directory is a good starting point

Yeah, I opened it after I uploaded it and was concerned that it may not do much good...

Not that I know what I am looking for, but two lines of text doesn't seem like it would be very telling.

Here is that one.

The link I have for my download is a month old. I don't know if those things expire or are changed... ?

You might want to remove that attachment. It contains your serial number....

It's not there any longer. I guess Raf must have pulled it for me. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks! I had done so, but holiday break leaves me with plenty of time. I guess I will try again.

Good news and bad news...

The good news is: On a clean install the game will run.

The bad news is: When I run the patch and try to run the game it still stops short. (at 67% if that helps)

Here is the log again, but it only has the two lines as before.

Check that last post...

It ran right after the install (when the box is checked to run it at the last screen of the wizard).

But I just tried to start it and it failed. Here's the log.

Do you have any other programs running while you're trying to start AACW? Anti-virus, messengers, that kind of thing?

@ Soundoff: Maybe a long shot, but your current problem reminds me of some problems I had back in 2007 that had to do with memory. Not exactly how much RAM you have but the way it (and the swap file and graphic memory) is used by the game engine and windows. The game hanging at 67% load is probably related to map/textures loading (?). Your rig is I think, exactly the same, but as you reformatted, some options (both from windows and the game) are maybe not exactly the same as they were before.

You could try and change in the general.opt file some parameters - namely Memusage (to 25) and also turn off ("0") the option to load textures/map at startup (sorry, away from home, do not remember the exact wording of the respective line).

It might help.

Huh...

I don't know what to tell you... But after some windows updates it all seems to be running perfectly fine.

Thank you all for your rapid help and all of your efforts! :hat:

Off to the war! :dada:
