Game will not finish initializing

Sat Sep 20, 2008 4:27 am

Hey guys. Having a recent problem gettting ACW to startup. I have installed the latest patch 1.10a and I have installed/updated my ATI Radeon 200 graphics card with Omega drivers on Windows XP. The game is in the process of loading textures, reaches 56% textures loaded then Windows says an error has occurred and will be forced to close. I have had other issues with loading saved games, but nothing this major where I can't even begin to play. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can you please send your <game dir>\acw\settings\general.opt file to support@ageod.com, reminding us of the thread's URL ?

It might have something to do with how much memory you have and how it is handled in your system. As you can not access the options menu, try to change in the file mentioned by Pocus (general.opt) the option "load textures at startup" to no ("0" ?) and also to lower "memusage" to, say 25% (sorry, away from home, do not remember exact wording...)

not so early when you get child :)

Yes about mem usage, this can be the solution indeed.

.opt file was sent to support. I think I had lowered the mem usage and texture size previously (I was also having trouble loading saved games which seemed to resolve). Hopefully, we can figure something out. Thanks.

Used Wordpad to change the general.opt file under settings to 25% memory usage and changed texture tab from 1 to 0. Game initializes perfectly and loads fine. So far, so good. Thanks so much guys.

If support could still look at the general.opt file to see if anything is out of whack, that would be great. Again, thanks.

That's a good tip Gray. I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to edit text. It's been 4 days since I changed the settings and everything is still up and running. Good deal.

I'm encountering a similar problem. The program is hanging on initialization. Textures bar is not opened. This is on a XP-SP2 with an ATI card.

Typically this occurs as I'm listening to a web radio program.

My workaround is to restart the machine. Then, I can restart the web radio program after the game has loaded. It would be nice to have a way to start the game without this hassle though.

May I ask which software you are using for playing the net radio?
I have WinAmp running virtually all the time in background and never had trouble with this one, so I'd be interested to know which software can interfere with AACW.

Cheers
