Mouse not smooth in Main Menu, Options, etc..

Sun Mar 12, 2006 4:41 pm

First of all nice job and impressive game! It is everything everybody says it is.

The mouse is not smooth while moving in the Main menu and Option window as one example. Even scrolling in non-Select areas it freeezes periodically. Seemed odd so wanted to report.

My Desktop is 1024 X 768.

Activate FullDebug (Options window, system) and tell me please your FPS.

Also, what is your computer? hyperthreaded P4 can have this problem (and the ones with old video drivers).

Steady around 25 but then dips to 14 when the mouse freezes. Odd thing is the HD is constantly being accessed the whole time I am just sitting in the Options Window. I have all the options checked in this window. Even while sitting for a few minutes and no mouse moment in the Option Window, the HD is still blinking at me. That seems odd also...

I have a 1.7 Ghz (sad I know...), 512K, 9600XT with 6.2 Catalyst. No hyperthreading on my 4+ year old PC!

I Defrag with PerfectDisk very often. All services and processes disabled I don't need. No AV in background. I run a lean PC as I have to as so old... :p leure:

ok, disable Pre-caching regions in the system tab, it slows down all computers except the ones with high-end (fast) hard drive where it provides a boost. This option will be disabled for the next patch.

I will also add the hardware mouse option.

How the game behave when you are playing? is the FPS under 25, when you are doing nothing (no scrolling eg), at normal zoom level? Your 1.7 ghz should be able to maintain 25 without problems: I have a Sempron 1.8 ghz and run the game at 50 (but I have 1024 RAM).

Yes, disabling pre-cache did it! Mouse is fine and constant HD access has stopped.

Yes, in game is 25 fps when I am sitting still. I wish I could add 512k more but my PC is limited for 512...

Thanks.!
