Sprite vs. Icon

Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:04 pm

posting as requested by Philippe M:

As far as I know you guys are using the term sprite to refer to unit and commander symbols which I beleive should be called Icons. I don't want to give the wrong info here (I'm a history major not an engrish major)

Any other players want to weigh in on this?

I replied:
Re: Sprite. According to what I read on the web it is technically not
wrong but it is rarely used in the US except in computer graphics
programming (and a soft drink brand name). Certainly not used in wargaming or pc gaming in my experience. The unit sprite is an icon, the city, fort, depot and other static symbols could also correctly be called icons; trees, mountains etc. I think would correctly be called symbols.

We don't differentiate between moving and static icons.
