2 PBEM players wanted for RUS Short Campaign

Sun Jan 05, 2014 12:09 am

Anybody interested in a pbem of the Short Campaign for Revolution Under Seige? From what I have read, the short champaign is much more balanced than the long campaign. Also I am fairly new with RUS but really having fun with it. I would like to try a PBEM as the southern Siberians, so we would need a Red and Southern White players. I should be able to do a turn a day.

My thoughts for options would include:
=Medium Delay commitment
=significant penalties for inactive commanders
=historical attrition

Also apparently the restricted region ability is not working currently in RUS which hurts the Red player. A possible house rule to compensate would allow a region restricted unit to make one move out of their region (reflecting scouting, raids and small attacks) and then must return back to their home region. (This is something a unit could do even if the restriction was working since penalties don't start until the unit leaves its home region.) Not a perfect workaround but would prevent the wholesale use of restricted units out of their home regions.

Also hopefully we can get one experienced player to host the game.

Any PBEM players ready to play the bloodthirsty Southern Whites or Reds? Drop me a private message and hopefully we can get a game started shortly.

short campaign

I just wanted to mention the short campaign is very ahistorical, wrong officers in the wrong places with the wrong ranks. The Siberian Whites by may 1919 were already virtually defeated.

I do not understand why people think the GC is unbalanced; i have played 7, IIRC, multi player GCs with 4 Red wins, 2 Southern White and 1 Siberian White win.

I have not played the Grand Campaign yet but I have read comments stating that the game is unbalanced against the Reds. However I am playing the Short campaign because I start playing scenarios beginning with the shortest scenarios first and working my way up to the longest scenarios. I have now reached the Short Campaign and had a blast playing the Siberian Whites. Last night, I started a new short campaign as the Reds. I am also having a blast with playing the Reds even against the Ai. I have enjoyed the scenario so much that I decided to attempt PBEM with the scenario.

Fortunately my knowledge of the Russian Civil War is pretty shallow. Hopefully I will find some books to improve my knowledge. Until then, no complaints from me about historical accuracy. However RUS Gold will come out sooner or later, I hope you have sent AGEOD a list of the inaccuracies so they can be corrected for the Gold version.

Yea, don't get the wrong idea; i love RUS and it is my favorite AGE game. I started playing this when it came out and i did discuss with the designer the leadership issues. Vatzetis should start at 3* as he was the commander in chief of the Red army. Tukachevsky and Frunze should start at 2* otherwise there is no way they can reach historical ranks within the limits of AGE.
But, Stalin should just be removed. He never was an army commander and he spent a grand total of about 3 months in any kind of combat situation. Trotsky should be removed as an army commander as well and made a support unit like the British military mission.

Here is a thread discussing the balance of the Grand Campaign. The conclusion was that the Reds were at a significant disadvantage. However the thread is from late 2011/early 2012. It is very possible that the scenario has been tweaked in terms of balance since that discussion but maybe not. I do know I have seen other references as well to red disadvange in the Grand Campaign and good balance in the short campaign but not sure how old were the comments.

PS: Here is a very entertaining 9 page AAR of the short campaign from the Siberian viewpoint.
