Shift key on a unit

Mon Jun 02, 2008 12:54 am

The manual and wiki mention this for the shift key when on a unit:

Shift
When a (non-army) stack is selected: See the nearby regions and nature of the links.

What does that mean?

It shows you which terrain you cross moving from one region to another. If you have to cross a river for example, it is shown as a light blue line.

Makes sense - thanks.

The lines are color coded. I believe they indicate the relative cost of each type of move. It looks like it varies from dark blue to gray although sometimes I see a line that looks brown. Does anyone know what the color code is?

I found the definition of three of them:

Dark Blue - indicates there is a load/unload point for naval/river transports
Light Blue - indicates there is a river crossing required for move.
Brown - indicates that there is no water to cross.

That leave at least Gray and maybe a few other colors undefined.

Use the Search - there's a thread from about two months back that has a post on this in some detail.

Never use the stuff, myself, though. On the mouseover for a region, for instance, there's a statement about how many days it'll take to enter the region. Most of the water stuff is pretty clear to me, also.

Hi!

I'm not positive about it but probably gray is for road connections between two regions and black for railroad connections.
The easier way to check it is just on game so you can see if actually the black/gray or blue lines go to regions connected by roads, rails or separated by rivers on the map.
Cheers!

Shift key lines

There are a few posts on shift key lines in the thread, "What's not in the manual".

Here's one example:

Well I still don't see a system behind gray.
Sometimes they point right on water, sometimes on land, sometimes even 2 lines in the same region(Lawrence to Gallia OH).
Can it be that they were never adjusted to changes on the map?
