What options do you use?

Mon Oct 08, 2007 11:03 pm

Im sure this has been discussed elsewhere but as Im particularly lazy I thought Id start a new thread. I've been away for a while and just started playing again with the new 1.07c patch as the CSA. I think the AI is behaving differently than it did in the games' earlier iterations and I was wondering what were the best setup options for a challenging game without giving the AI an ultra-unrealistic 'cheat' advantage. As usual thanks in advance for any helpfull notions.

I think the first thing you'll want to do is patch to 1.07d. The forum indicates there were a lot of problems with the c patch.

But as far as I can see 1.07e still has the problem with all draft/financial etc options being available in a current game?

Hobbes, what problems are you speaking of. I have been away for a while. Have there been some changes in these?

A few people have reported a problem since 1.07c with all options being available. In my current PBEM for instance I should have 7 turns left before I can make a draft choice but it has become available early - same with most options. My opponent also gets this. Pocus thought he had fixed in 1.07d but we still get the problem so our game is now on hold.

I have been trying to send a save to Pocus but it keeps being rejected by email.

Cheers, Chris

I have the same problem.

You need to restore the backup where the problem disappear. In my case, i must restore the backup turn -2. It's a PBEM game too.

the problem is fixed, but if you had your options reset even if it should not, then it is history and the new version won't block the option 'retroactively'.

Try a new game (62 campaign), draft men, you will see there is no reset.

OK so we will have to go back several turns. There is no way to change a value anywhere I assume?

Thanks, Chris

In my previous post, i indicated that I also was having the problem of getting money and men every turn.

Pocus took a look at my savegame and the mistake was on my part. I was unaware that everything reset in June 1861. Everything is working fine.

This is possible, if you tweak the saved game.

You know that your 24 last turns are always saved by AACW, do you?

Just press the home key on the keyboard when you have the cursor over one of the saved game slots in the load game menu. Every time you press home it takes you back one turn.

Keep a backup of the save directory somewhere before trying this. I also zip and send all files of the current turn to my opponent so If I have a disaster he has a copy.

Cheers, Chris

In your ACW\Saves directory under the name of your saved game you have up to 24 sub directories containing your previous turns.

Speaking of Options, I play with reduced navy effectiveness with less micromanagement.

Also you need to set the delay after move timer in order to see units moving during the processing phase. This is vital for watching enemy movements. I think the timer is on zero by default.

In my first campaign as the USA it seems there is no foreign intervention policy option and prisoner exchange option in the politics screen. Maybe it as something to do with the game options?
