Combining rgt/bde's

Wed Jul 25, 2007 9:53 pm

This is one aspect that I am totaly confused about. Why can I combine unit A and B but not C and D.

For example. Why can't I combine any and all Texas rangers into one brigade?
Why can I combine 2 sets of 2 units of Mo. militia in the same stack, but not combine the remaining 2 into a single Bde unit? I may just be missing something? But I can figure no hard and fast rule about what I can and can't combine.

If I'm understanding your question it has to do with the number of elements a brigade is designed to hold. You can merge two units of the same type when combined they equal the max allowed. Some Militia units are defined that they can have 2 militia units and they are recruited with one so they are short from the start. so you can merge one unit with the other. Another example is a 3 rgt bde loses a rgt in combat. you have a rgt of the same type, that's allowed to get it back to 3. But let's say you have two TX ranger units and each is defined as having 1 cavalry unit. you can't merge them. there is no where for the 2nd element to go in either unit.

Ah........so each type of unit has different limits on how many elements it can contain? Are those limits listed in the manual? And how are we to know which ones come in short an element ( militia) and which don't. Is it just random, historical? Because sitting there trying to combine unit after unit is tiresome.

Dont the number of elements show up when you are hovering with the mouse pointer over the unit or the unit tab? I have a vauge memory of that but I cant check up on it for a few days unfortunatly.

Select the units you want to merge then mouseover the merge button. The tooltip will tell you how many slots they have and what can they fill it with.

militia

Is militia the only units that can be combined together? IF so, then why not at the beginning when purchasing militia that a player can buy two units together and show up in one town together rather than halving to micromanage them at a collection spot on the game.
