I normally play the North, so my experience is with the CSA AI. I set the game to 'Hard', set aggressiveness as 'normal' and give a slight edge in FOW to the AI. I have found under previous versions that if the AI is on aggressive as the South, it tended to make to many ill-advised attacks deep into Northern territory that led to large attrition losses and sometimes force annihilation. I would think that the same parameters would also apply to Northern AI. If you give it too much FOW edge and make it too aggressive, it will be likely to thrust too deeply into your territory, leaving the forces to be cut off and destroyed by you.
I believe that I saw Pocus recommend in another thread to play 1.6 at the Hard setting with slight FOW advantage to the AI for the best AI behavior.
