A wiki for AACW! (and a logo to go with it!)

Fri Jul 13, 2007 11:12 am

Hi!

A few weeks back, there was a small discussion about setting up a wiki for AACW. I've been a bit busy since, but with a couple of weeks of vacation coming up, time has opened up and I've started work on getting it up and running.

It'll be a short while (a couple of weeks?) before it is ready for the world, but in the meantime, I am wondering if there are any graphics-savvy people around that would like to make the logo for the wiki? If so, post the suggestion here, and if there are more than one, people can dicsuss them and we can see which one is liked best by the most. Then the "winner" shall receive glory and salutations when the wiki goes public :)

EDIT: With Stonewalled having submitted such an excellent set of logos, let's poll what th epeople think of them! (Note that it is multiple-choice)

Nice! Each one of those is at least 10 times better than what I put together to use as a placeholder :)

Cool pictures Stonewalled

I like the 1st & 3rd pictures. I like the smaller print that is on the 1st picture as it shows more of it...

Stonewalled,
Those are fantastic looking pictures. Do you have them in the sizes for wallpapers? Or rather where did you get them and do you have any others?

"Here is a couple I came up with real fast...."

Those look great! The middle one is my favorite, but I would be happy with any of them.

I like the 4th one. Nice, simple, and to the point.

3rd is very clear and precise, no mistaking what the Wiki would be for with that one!

Great logos! My first reaction was that I liked the 3rd best, but I agree that the 4th is equally good, and it is simpler. Either would be great with me.

I like the second one the best as to me it gives a feel of the torn up soldiers and stuff from the period, even with the words. The crispness of the words in the fourth one do not seem to fit the torn flags that they are in front of.

My second choice, or rather my other first choice, would be the third one. I like that it has the troops displayed and has both sides.

All in all they are all very good.

So, no-one dares challenge Stonewalled? Will it be victory by walkover? :)

I would challenge, but I'm busy on another project, and I really don't see a need. They are very well done. I like the fourth picture best. Second choice would be the third one.

I just love the last one, the Irish Brigade assault on the 34th Irish Georgia Regiment's position on Marye's Heights at Fredericksburg. :)

Great news Raf!
I agree with Jabberwock, but I prefer the 3rd over the 4th.

Look forward to helping flesh out the new Wiki!

OK, then lets make a poll out of it!

You can vote for as many as you like; in the end we should see which one(s) that the most people think would suit the wiki well :)

Looking forward to unleashing it on the world! :)

(I just want to have some basic content and structure in place first)

Fourth for me. The meshing of the flags is great and a classic design. I like the reds used, as well as the offset of the 'AACW'. Plus, it's neutral.

It isn't "ready" enough to go live yet, so this gives people something to discuss in the meantime.

Since the wiki isn't live yet, I don't expect people to have too many thoughts about it, but those who have, are more than welcome to share, either here, or e.g. by messenger :)

OK people, (hoping that some of you are waiting anxiously), let it be known that the wiki will be launched on Friday, a week from now.

That'll give me time to sort out some technical issues and get some more stuff in before going public; I hope it'll be worth the wait :)

Glory and salutations to Stonewalled! :fleurs:

Going by the poll result, my favourite, number 2, didn't make it. However, I'm exercising my whatchemacallit as wiki starter-upper to say that my second favourite, number 4, was close enough to your/the poll's favourite to be selected.

I know it's not Friday yet, but the URL will be announced shortly in a seperate thread :)

Good choice. By mistake I voted for number three instead of number four (if I could count, I would have become an accountant). I was hoping that number four would not lose by one vote.
