Generals can improve?

Can generals improve their stats by winning battles? I know this was possible in BoA, but I haven't noticed it yet in AACW. Can I take a 3-1-1 and turn him into a 3-2-2 with a series of victories?

Oh yeah I've seen this happen. It seems to me they get a random stat improve for every new "star" experience level.

Yes, they have to gain experience in battle (which also leads to better seniority). You should see more experience game starting with 1.04, because each element can get it from being in battle even if they don't fire a shot.
