winning the game is a stalemate ?

Tue May 29, 2007 11:22 pm

In my game I took Washington in august 1862 - I caught the Union off guard and a massive attack on the city saved the day for the confederacy.

My NM jumped to 154 and the Union dropped to 49 ... now a screen pops up about "stalemate, neither side met its territorial objectives, you have more points".

I mean - I took Washington DC - how can this be a stalemate ? I think this is the first stone to total victory ... not to stalemate. And why is the game stopping ? The lower level for Union morale defeat is 40 instead of 50. The Union still should fight on ... imho.

And why do I have to stop playing after such a nice victory.

ps = in the next turn there's a pop up saying "you already won the game, but you can continue to play".

What's going on here ? I'm not following.

unless this is the last turn of the game, and I don't believe so here, this is not normal to get the report, if nobody hit the defeat level or win level... Do you have the save around?

same happend to me

Wed May 30, 2007 2:14 pm

i've had same happen to me. Happens when u take all the cities needed for automatic victory, but dont have NM more than what is needed for auto victory.
Read: have Bowling Green and Washington but only like 175 NM. Game stops says u won, but stalemate msg appeares. Then ask if u wana play on.

Ill look for files but im pretty sure i dont have them any more. Hope Spruce does.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

I was smart enough to make a seperate save - I figured this was bogus.

please give me an e-mail adress.

by the way - I also had Bowling Greene for a long time and then I trashed into Washington.

I have every objective city except St. Louis, New York and Philidelphia along with 150 NM and my game continues.

IIRC, support@ageod.com

Wasn't this related to the order things are calculated (think I saw something about this in the past). I.e.:

- At the end of turn X, scores are checked, and side A is determined to have achieved enough to win.
- Start of turn X+1, the usual adjustments are done to NM, e.g. the adjustment done to make it difficult to win unless you have taken the enemy's capital (don't recall the exact details of that one at the moment)
- Thereafter, final check of victory parameters are done; NM has fallen below what is need for a full victory, and "stalemate" occurs.

Disclaimer: the above is 10% informed opinion and 90% speculation.

The "Stalemate" happened to me on my first CSA campaign. It was Early May 1863 & the USA's NM just dropped to 40, while mine was 154. I should note that I had none of the objective cities, except the CSA cores. I just ignored it and played one more turn. I then assaulted and captured Washington, DC which put me over 200 NM at which point the game said I won but "could continue playing." In my case it had no ill-effects as far as continuing my campaign.

Great game, by the way. I downloaded it Sunday and have been hooked ever since!

I just had the stalemate issue again as the CSA against the Union.

This time I drove the Union morale down to 58 (below 60). Below 60 the Union is defeated, but still the game displays the "stalemate" event. Shouldn't there be a "victory" event ?

Or is stalemate to be considered as the victory ?
