Conflicting orders & repairing a breach

Tue May 22, 2007 5:38 pm

Ok, this happened to me in one turn.

1.I moved Magruder force to attack Harper's Ferry. First message in the log after turn's completion was "Magruder issued conflicting orders and Magruder Command reverted to defensive posture". His force didn't actually enter Harper Ferry's region and stayed in Loudon region for the whole turn! What is wrong?
2. Bereaugard AoP is besieged in Annapolis. Second message in the log after the turn says " We repaired a breach in Annapolis". Never knew you could actually repair breaches. Wow! Does that happen when besieging enemy reverts from offenisve to defensive posture but stays in the region? Or I was just lucky with a roll?

I'm not sure. I noticed this occasionally in BoA, but never really understood what caused it. I'd like a little clarification on this too.

You were just lucky on a roll. It's part of how sieges are conducted.

The siege roll is influenced by the number of artillery on each side, supply, fort level and maybe a few more (I think there is a section in the game manual which describes that in detail.) There are three different outcomes: breach is made, no progress and breach repaired.

about (1), it happens when you enter a very hostile region with a unactivated leader, you will be forced into offensive posture, so to gain some control of it (but if caught in battle, you get maximum combat penalty!). Then once the control is at least 5%, the leader will be repostionned in defensive stance automatically.

Pocus I've also seen 1) happen with leaders set to passive stance reverting to defensive. Though it's possible those leaders were locked (McDowell and co. arriving at Alexandria).

Well, that is probably it. Will keep up in mind that 5% thing. Thanks.

the message is perhaps not very accurate, but I'm rather sure that is is generated by a posture autoswitching because of a low level game rule.
