two questions: leader speed & marching to the sound of guns

Mon May 21, 2007 12:56 pm

Two seperate questions, hope the title is not confusing.

1. As has been mentioned before (sorry I couldn't find an existing thread), leaders and HQs moving alone is one of the most frustrating aspects of the game due to the travel time required. Last night I noticed Div HQs have a speed coefficient of 150% and leaders 100%. Until the patch comes out adding the "quick move" feature (which I think is a great idea), couldn't we just mod the game ourselves to increase these speeds even more, making them something like 250 or 300% or whatever? This would I think solve the problem of them moving so slowly when moving alone?
I'm not a modder so forgive me if this is way off base, maybe it would be a royal pain if you have to actually mod each indivdual unit? Just seems like an easy quick fix unless I am missing something.

2. Marching to the sound of the guns, want to make sure a situation is WAD:
Union force is in Warren VA. General X leading a Corp of the ANV is sent to attack Union force and and does so. Beauregard is commanding another Corps of the ANV in adjacent Winchester. I get the message "Beauregard is committed to battle iin Warren Va" and Bory is shown as the commander of the CS force. CS wins battle and Union retreats to the NW. After the battle, Bory is sitting back in Winchester, still in defensive posture, and his Corps took no losses. General X is still in Warren and his force absorbed all the losses. All this seems ok to me except I thought Bory would stay in Warren if he joined the battle? BTW, Bory has higher seniority than General X so if he committed he would have been in command.

(Sorry about the General X its pbem and enemy is reading and doesn't know who Gen. X is ;) )

regarding 2. No it is Wad that the corps marching to the sound of guns stay where it started, it is a solution adopted to prevent token attacks on a side of the line that would attract all corps, leaving big gaps to be exploited by another unit... So to avoid exploits they adopted this solution that isn't perfect but satisfactory.

and about (1) (thanks veji for (2) ): you can't have a unit move more than one region a day anyway, so I'm unsure this will satisfy you, until the new order is there.

Thanks. For (1) figured there might be something I was not thinking about that would prevent just increasing the speed; I guess the 1 area per turn limit would do it.

For (2) I did not realize it was working like that, but i probably just had not noticed. (Tending to pay a lot closer attention to things now in pbem). The reason it was done this way makes perfect sense, just wanted to make sure.

I have a sound of guns question: does the reinforcing army or corps have to be stationary? Like say, what if it is in motion to an non-adjacent province, but not there yet at the time of battle; OR had just moved adjacent in time for battle?

you can still help even if moving to another region.
