Having problems merging units

Sat May 12, 2007 9:29 pm

There are a couple of units (one a supply unit, another is D Hunter, a 2 star general). in which I can't merge at all to other units.I get get the red buttons when I try to merge other units to it, but NOT when I do it the other way. In either case the merge is unsuccesfull. I had similar problems with the CSA game, but I thought it was to do with patching to a new version, but the current game was started with the current patch.

I'm not talking about putting 2 of them into one brigade. just trying to put one in the same group as the other units. Same with D Hunter, he doesn't want to be with anyone else.

Are both of the units inside a structure? If so, try moving one of them outside the structure first, before attempting to merge.

(Think I heard this reported as a (minor) bug not long ago)

Did that with Hunter and was then unable to move him back in.(I first had problems trying to get another division into his corp so took everything else out and found out he was the problem - could get everyone else in).

you are allowed one leader per division. Brigades can't for now receive leaders, except by setup.

The way I read PJL's posts, it seems he has problems having Hunter stacked with other units? (Hunter is commanding a corps, not a division)

Correct, and not just Hunter, I think for some reason a stack will become unmergeable and then I have to take everything out except the least important item and move that away somewhere, then I can deal with the rest of the (new) group. The problem seems to be getting worse as wll, it's like one new non-mergeable stack a turn.

Maybe its this;

Even though your unit information with tabs are open, if your are not in focus on the map in the area that unit info screen is open from, manipulating units (merging) is not going to work.

I find this frustrating when I drag and drop a force amongst forces from one area to another - I scroll to the new area and then I can't manipulate the units anymore - and scrolling back to the location the info panel is from is not a quick thing to do.

Below is the current save file. Note that you can't merge the baloon in Washington, and an artillery brigade in Cincinattiv. Hunter in Port Tobacco can't merge with the militia in Port Tobacco, and so on.

BTW, can you add RAR to your attachment file type list - it's more efficient than Winzip.

there is only the ORD file in the archive, I would need the 3 to 5 files you see in the directory.

PJL,
I looked at your saved game.
Seems the problem is that some units have been manually locked.
See the small "lock" on the tabs of the 2nd Ohio Art; D. Hunter; Balloon.
If you Right-Click on a units tab, it locks it to prevent merging. Right-Click again will unlock.
Tested this a few times with your game and everything works fine for me. Let us know if this helps.

Thanks for the help = have tested the save, and everything is working fine now that I know how to unlock/lock the tabs, and can mege the various units I had trouble with again.
