CSS Alabama / CSS Florida

Sun May 06, 2007 2:59 am

Playing the 1861 campaign game, I came across something, and I'm wondering if it's a bug, or whether I missed something:

In Late Feb 1862, I was checking the huge stack of units in Great Britain, when I noticed that both the CSS Alabama and CSS Florida where just sitting there, unlocked, doing nothing! I have no idea how long they'd been sitting in port. Shouldn't there be an alert message in the mail box to the effect that "CSS Alabama / Florida Now Available in Great Britain"? It's not like the CSA player would know to check on units in England...

Also, the CSS Alabama shows as being commanded by "R. Semmes" --- even though Raphael Semmes is his own Officer Unit stacked with the CSS Sumter. Just a suggestion, but maybe when the Alabama becomes available, the Semmes officer should automatically move to Great Britain, take command of the Alabama, and have a notification to that effect.

This is done when the Alabama goes to sea in July 1862 :cwboy: ..consider in the meanwhile that Semmes has been "appointed" to take command of the Alabama but has not reached it ...yet

Update: Late May 1862 --- recieved the following message: "CSS Alabama is Launched in Liverpool, England".

So, then, I would assume that the Alabama and Florida being active in Feb 1862 is a bug?

It's not a bug, they are "launched" (i.e. completion half finished) and still locked till May.

It is a bug !

or it was a bug ...

I reported this one already in the other thread - Pocus has seen it.

I was able to bring both ships in the European Channel in 1861 and then had them sail to Charleston - where Semmes was already present (also a bug).

I had build 2 steam frigates of my own and I grouped the four ships (the 2 that came from the UK took a long time tough) and put Semmes in command.

I was sailling with my 4 steam frigates to the commerce raider box - and then the ships got locked (might be due to a new patch that came out) and didn't unlock.

then the Semmes and the CSS Alabama event fired and both unlocked - but the stack itself remained locked.

Summary = in the older patches, you could indeed sail both ships prior to their completion date to the CSA. And there's also something wrong with Semmes (in the older patches), he seemed to unlock too early.

Altough - it might have been fixed by now...

I just processed a turn in late Sept. 1861 (July campaign start) and the Florida and Alabama both became available and were able to be ordered to sea (I found them with the T-Y keys). No sign of Semmes yet, and there was no event other than the one saying they had been laid down and would be available in 9 months. This game was started with 1.02c (or possibly 1.02b, I can check if important) and this last turn was processed with 1.02d.

And now my pbem opponent knows they are at sea, but I suppose that is fair trade-off for getting them earlier. Hi Dan ;)

We have a problem here: they should be locked in England, but on the other hand some game rules prevent this...we'll fix it in a future patch :cwboy:

Mine as well --- in the middle of the Atlantic!!!!

This is Late June, 1862 --- after I recieved notice that Semmes is available and has taken command. (Evidently he's something of a martinet, and won't let the Alabama sail back to port, or sumfink...).

This needs to be fixed ASAP.

Does this mean your squadron is still locked after July 1862... ?
could you send us a savegame from Jan to July 1862 ?

Yes, both the Alabama and Florida became locked (with v1.02e) while at sea, in the Atlantic box, and stayed that way until August, 1962.

You sure you want that many save games? They are 150MB each, ya know...

Use some sort of compression on it, e.g. WinRar or Winzip :)
