Number of divisions - CSA

Sun May 06, 2007 2:45 am

Hi there.

I've started a Grand Campaign as the Confederacy (and thinking of writing an aar about the game too, 'cause I think it will turn out to be a thriller), I just wondered if the number of divisions availible as reinforcements will increase as time goes on? I'm now in april '62, and I can't seem to have nearly enough divisions for my armies...

EDIT: Highlighted important word

You have to buy them. Look under Reinforcements, then Support Units.

Yeah I know. I've bought every one availible, it's just not enough.... Therefore, I wonder if I'd be able to buy more in say 1863, same as with army HQs...

Sorry, if I didn't make myself clear in the first post...

As the Confederacy, you get 24 divisions for the entire game and 6 armies. It gets to a point where you need to treat a Corps as a division. Promote whenever you get the chance and form a Corps. Keep 2 Corps per army as your division heavy units and use the other Corps as large divisions. Its the only way to manage with 24 HQ units other than modding the game to give you more.

Yes to both questions. Army and Div. HQs increase over time. :)

The CSA had for the most part larger divisions than the Federals. In fact the Army of Northern Virginia under Lee had at it's best time two large corps. One under Jackson and the other under Longstreet. It has often been stated at the time and later that while Jackson was his hammer Longstreet was his anvil (though there were a few situations that the roles were reversed). After Jackson's death Lee changed the configuration to three corps, not to make it more controllable, but because he had no one in his estimation to replace Jackson.

This is a great game.... :coeurs:

After playing through a few complete campaigns on both sides, my situation seems to be that I've always got surplus troops and surplus leaders, but a huge shortage of HQs.

Getting the new leaders is great, but I generally end up forwarding them to a "troop depot" where they just gather dust.
