Gosport Navy Yard

Wed Mar 14, 2007 9:19 am

When the confederates captured the Gosport Navy Yard near Norfolk they obtained with it more than 1000 heavy naval guns. they then used these for a large part as coastal artillery in forts along the coast and rivers. If the south captures Norfolk in this game how will these stores of heavy guns be handled? will they get a number of free "bonus" coastal artillery units?

Also the naval yard itself with it's facilities was one of the best in the country, will there be any additional benefit to it's capture (besides the obvious ability to build ships there)?

Sounds like a great idea to me :coeurs: . Hope there wouldn't be too much to program :siffle:
Forrest said something about killing a Yankee for each of his horses that they shot. In the last days of the war, Forrest had killed 30 of the enemy and had 30 horses shot from under him. In a brief but savage conflict, a Yankee soldier "saw glory for himself" with an opportunity to kill the famous Confederate General... Forrest killed the fellow. Making 31 Yankees personally killed, and 30 horses lost...

He remarked, "I ended the war a horse ahead."

I'm not handling the actual scripting of historical events (just the code behind them), but I do think that Philippe Thibaut planned several things on capture of Gosport. Perhaps he will provides you with more details.
