Question on Winter Weather

Wed Jan 31, 2007 7:55 am

Hi
In BOA winter weather effect was factored at the end of the turn, so that you can move an army in winter through bad weather and still don´t suffer any attrition as long as you end the turn in a friendly city, that is the case even if the "friendly" city has been taken that same turn. The net effect is that armies still move very freely in winter, there is little incentive for taking winter quarters, will that be address some way different in the ACW game?

In winter, your armies move very slowly. To "jump" from one city to another can only be done in some part of the map (New-England). And you better take supply with you in case the assault fails... (supply that will make you even slower)
In most part of the map, a winter campaign asks for thorough preparation...

a valid point aryaman, the 'jump from city to city' can be somehow gamey, as the ACW has a lot of cities. I will write that on the list to check.

Is that so? I didn´t really notice that, is that related to the season or the weather in each county?

Thanks Pocus, I imagine the ideal way to deal with it is that units should suffer attrition in winter the moment they move through a county with winter weather, the more days it moves the larger the penalty.

Weather in each county, it affects movement and it's strongly influenced by the seasons (although I got caught in snow... my army has never really forgiven me this early campaign attempt...

Then, I think it would be good that a notice would be given to the player, like when a fleet is delayed by bad weather, as it is an important information.

this is not a flat delay in days per se, like 'you got delayed 3 days because of heavy snowfall preventing move', but an increase in the terrain cost, compared to clear weather. And it happens for mud weather too, so you would get one message for each stack in these periods!
