CSA Campaign Very Hard difficulty

Wed May 25, 2011 2:35 pm

Started a campaign for the CSA on very hard difficulty with historical attrition. The historical attrition is certainly hampering me but it doesn't seem to affect the AI. For instance Halleck attcked Tucson with around 10k men it took him a turn to get to Tucson he then waited a turn to attack my garison then stayed there for another 3 turns before I attacked. When I attacked he was still at full strength when he should have suffered considerable attrition as Tucson produces minimal supplies. At no point did he have any supply wagons with him. I have seen similar instances in the same campaign.

Is it worth continuing with the CSA on this difficulty level as I don't have enough men to protect my supply lines from large scale raids which could last for months if the above is anything to go by.

Maybe you're playing with "historical attrition, for the player only"? Actually, I would recommend playing on this setting anyway, since I don't think the AI is well equipped to deal with attrition.

As for continuing your game on that difficulty level, only time will tell whether it's worthwhile to you. If you enjoy it, carry on, if not, tone it down a bit. When I play the AI, I set it to "hard" difficulty with historical attrition for the player only, but with significant bonuses to AI activation and fog of war. I still find the full '61 CSA campaign to be very easy on these settings (unless I pull my punches I can win before '62), but if you're looking for a challenge, I recommend some of the later campaigns. '62 is a nice start, '63 is just the right amount of challenge for me, and '64, well... I only recommend '64 if you really enjoy the challenge of keeping armies in supply, otherwise it's only for masochists - still winnable, but likely only on the '64 election event.

I think I set it as historical attrition for both. Anyway thanks for the responce I'll see how this campaign goes through the first half of 62' if its too hard i'll try the hard level. I don't mind losing if its an interesting campaign but I have seen a few odd unrealistic things in this campaign already though.
