Pillage ability not working?

Tue May 10, 2011 7:10 pm

I just captured the level 1 depot in Wheeling, WV, with three small divisions, all of which included elements with the pillage ability, but the depot is still intact. I was hoping it would be destroyed automatically so I could boot it out of there but quick. Does the pillage ability not work if you incorporate these elements into divisions with regular units? Or does the ability only waive the 5 day requirement to destroy captured depots (pretty sure I've seen otherwise though)?

I am using v. 1.15. Thanks in advance for any reply.

Some more info: All of the leaders involved were activated on both turns (recently learned inactive leaders can't destroy depots). Do you need to be on "evade fight" orders to use the pillage ability? I needed the assault the city first, and I assume you can't do that on "evade fight."

I just have the CSA trn file, since it's a PBEM game - will that suffice? If you need anything else let me know and I'll ask my opponent. It's not critically important though, I managed to destroy the depot and withdraw anyway :)

Thanks Gray.

Okay, thanks. Just to clarify: if a division containing an element with the pillage ability, commanded by an activated leader who's not on "evade fight" order, captures a depot, it should automatically and instantly destroy said depot, is this correct? Raiding divisions are an integral part of my strategy, so if this isn't working properly, that would be good to know!

I could definitely be wrong, but I seem to remember this ability only working when I ran past an undefended town or depot. I don't think it ever triggered when I had to fight for a town.

Ahh, that explains it, thanks guys. Given my aggressive raiding, the chances of finding an ungarrisoned depot are slim to nil, so I'd be better off using my pillagers independently. Good to know.
